Stratcom PRO in Latin America: Tackling disinfo from Buenos Aires

Stratcom PRO’s Janis Rungulis joined leading global voices at the Conference on Disinformation and Manipulation and Interference of Foreign Information (FIMI) in Buenos Aires on 12 May 2025. Organised by the EU Delegation to Argentina in partnership with the embassies of Poland, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine, the event brought together experts to address the global challenges of foreign information manipulation and explore democratic responses. Speaking on a panel focused on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Janis examined the Kremlin’s global disinformation strategy and its corrosive impact on democratic societies. Drawing on his experience in EU strategic communication, he cautioned about the urgent need to confront and respond to foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) campaigns with clarity, coordination, and resilience.

During the same visit, Janis also engaged with journalism students at Universidad Abierta Interamericana, discussing the role of strategic communication in building democratic resilience. He later delivered a presentation at the EU Delegation to Argentina on the EU’s digital diplomacy efforts worldwide—spotlighting the most engaging EU Delegation social media posts from April 2025. The session included virtual participation from other EU Delegations across Latin America and EU Member State representatives in Buenos Aires, underscoring the importance of regional collaboration in countering disinformation.
